If Bush Died...
I write this in response to some people saying their One Wish would be for Bush to die. Even if this was in jest, that is pretty a pretty lowly wish. For one, why would you go with that? I mean, if you wished for a lot of money, you could pay to have him dead, and still have money for other stuff [NOTE: NOT TALKING ABOUT ASSASSINATION, in case any G-men are reading...]. And for another thing, despite your opinions about his politics and what have you, he is still a nice, decent guy, and it is just plain despicable to wish for his death. Shame on you.
So, on to the topic. Well, let's just say Bush died for whatever reason. That would be great for liberals, right?
Right?
You might think that, but they might not like the consequences. For, you see, if the President is unable to perform his duties, the guy who becomes President is...
DICK CHENNY!
I bet that is SOOOO much better for those Bush-haters...
So you don't like that? OK. Let's say he died before naming a VP. Who then?
Dennis Hastert: Speaker of the House.
No? Don't like that either?
OK. After him comes...Ted Stevens.
Who is that? Why, the President pro tempore of the Senate.
"Who is he?" one might ask. Well, he is a senator from Alaska, who just happens to be the most senior Republican in the Senate.
Don't like any of those? Well, here is the rest of the order of Presidental Succession:
-Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State
-John Snow, Secretary of the Treasury
-Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense
-Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General
-Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior
-Mike Johanns, Secretary of Agriculture
-Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Commerce
-Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor
-Mike Leavitt, Secretary of Health and Human Services
-Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
-Norman Mineta, Secretary of Transportation
-Samuel Bodman, Secretary of Energy
-Margaret Spellings, Secretary of Education
-R. James Micholson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs (interesting note: besides having an initial for a first name, this man was also the US ambassador to the Holy See [dat be the Pope, yo's])
-Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security

Be careful what you wish for.
And now something completely different...
